Ever since I was five-years-old, I wanted to be a social media manager.
Or a basketball player. But my limited jumping ability prevented an NBA career from a young age. Instead of becoming an athlete, I decided on something I was actually highly-skilled at: writing.
While working on my journalism degree from Michigan State University, a friendly assistant sports editor took a chance on me. I gathered prep scores and edited agate before graduating to stories about prep and college sports.
When I graduated from MSU, I stayed within the Gannett organization, first with the Detroit Free Press where I continued sports writing, but also started on my true career path: digital media.
I managed Freep.com/sports each night and uncovered the world of web analytics. Soon after, I moved within the Gannett organization to run LivingstonDaily.com, launch social media properties, manage blogs and web analytics.
Through a combination of incredible luck, writing skill and digital advertising knowledge, I survived journalism and ironically, found stability in the advertising industry as a communications specialist with Burns & Wilcox. At Burns, I developed content strategy, email marketing and web publishing skills that eventually led me to Campbell-Ewald.
While at CE, I worked as a social media analyst writing content, developing social media strategies and analyzing results for a pair of Fortune-500 firms and a Japanese tuna company. I also helped lead the "Social Media Players" to a championship in the inaugural 3-on-3 tournament despite the aforementioned jumping inadequacies.
I'm now working as a social media manager at Little Caesars where I lead digital initiatives from global social media strategy, analysis and content development to digital and mobile engagement. I still can't dunk, but I've been Tweeting longer than LeBron James - so that has to count for something. You can reach me @GunnSh0w or through the links atop this page.
